Bognor’s association with Trebbin began in 1994 through Weil am Rhein, which had a link with Trebbin in former East Germany since 1990.

Trebbin is situated about 25 km south of Berlin and Potsdam, and has seen major changes since reunification in 1990. New housing estates, improved roads and particularly a very good rail link to Berlin, have changed the character of this town and the centre of Trebbin with its new market place is another sign of new times.

History also plays an important role in Trebbin: in 2006 the town staged a major celebration of the 500th anniversary of Hans Clauert, the local Till Eulenspiegel,still remembered for his pranks to this day!

Despite its proximity to Germany’s capital, the area around Trebbin is rural and the town is surrounded by numerous interesting villages, historic houses and castles, some of which are open to the public. The medieval city of Jüterbog with its long and interesting history, the Cistercian monastery of Zinna, Luckenwalde and Blankensee lake and village are within easy reach. A little further away are the towns of Dresden, with its famously restored “Frauenkirche”, Leipzig, and Wittenberg, also known as Lutherstadt or Luther’s town. And of course, Berlin with all its famous sights and attractions, and historic Potsdam with the renowned palace of Sanssouci are “on the doorstep.”
