Twinning visit to Saint-Maur-des-Fossés by the French Adult Education Group May 2008

Old Saint-Maur The most recent visit to Saint-Maur-des-Fossés took place in May 2008. This was the annual exchange visit organised by the French Adult Education Group. The group’s first visit was in the early 1980s, and followed successful visits by a number of groups such as local schools, the operatic and drama clubs, the squash club, cycling, music, rugby, swimming and youth football clubs. The Adult Education Group has continued ever since to visit Saint-Maur in alternate years. A group from Saint-Maur has continued to be hosted in Bognor Regis in the intervening years. Over the years many lasting friendships have grown.

The Seine in Paris The host town generally organises a very full and interesting programme, leaving one day free to spend with the hosts. Last year’s exchange was no exception: it included the customary visit to nearby Paris with a chance to see the sights, do a little shopping and sample French cuisine.

Auvers Chateau The day trip was to the Impressionists’ town of Auvers. After a visit to the interactive museum, the group took the opportunity to visit sites of some famous paintings or eat in the painters’ restaurant.

The visit culminated in an official reception at the Town Hall, followed by dancing to a French band.

This year, 2009, we look forward to receiving our French visitors in Bognor Regis and are in the process of finalising the programme for the visit in May.
